FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)
- Q: I"m not sure I understand what "Ballroom Dance" style is - I don't think I can dance it.
- A: When you are Ballroom dancing - you are partner dancing (dancing with your partner) - touch dancing. The dance rhythms include Waltz, Foxtrot, Rumba, Tango, All your swings, and Latin dances and many others. If you have danced any of those, you have danced ballroom!
- Q: Is this place for couples only?
- A: No, both Singles & Couples are welcome to attend. Many new friends are made, no matter if you are a Single or a Couple!
- Q: I'm embarresssed but, I have a hard time knowing what type of dance I should be doing to certain songs. I can't tell the difference between a Cha-Cha and a Salsa or a Waltz and a Foxtrot.
- A: Lots of people don't recognize what to dance to a particular beat. We want to make sure everyone gets to dance to their favorite songs, so at the beginning of each song we will call out the type of dances that you can do to that tune. Then you will know and can step out confidently!
- Q: When are the lessons and what are they like?
- A: We will teach a beginners lesson half an hour before our dance begins and this is a great time for newbies to get their feet wet and learn new, easy steps. For those who already know how to do the lesson of the night, it's the perfect time to warm up and introduce yourself to others. You do NOT need a partner to participate in the lesson, as we rotate partners every couple of minutes to ensure that everyone gets the opportunity to experience what it's like to dance with dancers of all levels. Of course, you do not have to rotate, if you and your partner wish to stay together for the duration of the lesson.
- Q: What is the dress code? I'm not sure how to dress.
- A: We encourage our guest to "dress up" (or smart casual)
- We must enforce NO RUBBER SOLED SHOES as our dance floor has cost us over $15,000 and we want to protect it against rubber skid marks, etc.
- We personally believe that the romance of dance is enhanced when people dress up in their finest! Ladies look beautiful & glamourous & men look dashing! Your whole outlook changes when you "dress up"!
- Q: What do you suggest for Swing Dance attire?
- A: Listed here are the suggestions and ideas for Swing attire:
Our dress code comes from the elegant ballroom perspective.
Our swing dances cover the entire spectrum of the early days of swing, from the big band era with zoot suits or double breasted suits, Charleston style dresses and early or post WWII look....
To early rock and roll (Elvis days) when they still wore blazers, white shirts and string ties to argyle sweater vests (not the James dean look) and women wore chiffon dresses and mink stoles.
There is the high school look with the poodle skirts, sweaters and saddle shoes or straight skirts and bobby socks and blouses.
Then there is the college look with the prom style gowns and white dinner jackets for men.
Or there is the adult look of chiffon style party dresses and mink stoles and suits for the men.
The 70's West Coast Swing era includes leisure suits (Saturday Night Fever) and form fitting dresses.
